What To Expect for Treatment #1

Understanding what to expect during your Scrambler Therapy visit can help you feel comfortable and prepared for treatment.

How Do I Prepare?

Before You Arrive

  • Speak with your physician about tapering medications that may interfere with nerve signaling, such as gabapentin, pregabalin, certain anticonvulsants, muscle relaxants, or ketamine.

  • Please complete all new patient paperwork prior to your first visit.

  • The skin in the treatment area should be free of lotions, oils, or topical products on the day of treatment.

  • If you have a history of reactions to medical adhesives, consider taking an antihistamine about 30 minutes before your appointment.

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated, such as shorts for leg treatment or short sleeves for arm treatment.

What Does it Feel Like?

During Treatment

  • Scrambler Therapy sessions typically last 45–60 minutes and are usually performed on consecutive days as part of a short treatment series.

  • During treatment, small electrodes are placed on the skin near the area of pain to deliver carefully designed “non-pain” signals through the nerves.

  • Most patients describe the sensation as gentle or tingling, and treatments are adjusted to remain comfortable throughout the session.

  • The first few sessions help determine whether your condition is responsive to Scrambler Therapy. Approximately 80–90% of patients experience meaningful relief.

  • As treatment progresses, the goal is to retrain the nervous system so the relief lasts 24 hours or longer between sessions, indicating the brain is beginning to adopt the “non-pain” signal.

Doing Your Homework

After Treatment

  • Patients are encouraged to track their results, noting when pain begins to return, when it reaches its maximum level, and whether the intensity is lower than before treatment.

  • As relief improves, patients should gradually return to normal activities, but avoid overexerting themselves too quickly.

  • Treatment typically continues with daily sessions until pain relief lasts 24–48 hours between treatments, indicating the nervous system is beginning to adopt the “non-pain” signal.

  • Most patients complete their initial course of therapy in about 5-10 treatment sessions.

  • If pain returns later, booster treatments may be scheduled months or even years later to reinforce the non-pain signal.
